THE JOB:

The Safety Manager evaluates and executes current health and safety plans in the workplace and develops new plans as needed. This position evaluates current and future practices, procedures, regulations, and activities throughout the company. The position assesses, identifies, and mitigates risk in adherence to the established safety culture. The safety manger is responsible for establishing policies that will create, promote and maintain a safe workplace to ensure that all operations are conducted in a safe, efficient, and responsible manner without any accidents, injuries, fatalities, environmental issues or fleet/property damage. Must have a strong knowledge in DOT, DOL, OSHA, FMCSA, and EPA laws and regulations. The ideal candidate is patient, has strong leadership, and can communicate efficiently in English and Spanish. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential. Manager must maintain an efficient flow and collaboration of information between customers, management, and all operational personnel; thus, ensuring that operations are meeting customers’ satisfaction while always adhering TransPremier’s, its customers’, and local safety and environmental policies and laws.

QUALIFICATIONS / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be flexible with schedules and locations, and to work weekends, evenings, or holidays as needed.
  • Ability to solve practical and analytical problems.
  • Ability to provide detailed reports and develop safety procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, lifting, stretching, pulling, and driving.
  • Good hearing and verbal skills.
  • May require sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth and the ability to focus.
  • An elevated level of awareness to surroundings and environment.
  • Proper use of supplied PPE is required always as occasional exposure to environmental, occupational may be present, including but not limited to: dust, fumes, uneven terrain, flammable materials, oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete, etc.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enforces company and client’s safety practices and standards.
  • Visit jobsites to evaluate health and safety practice and procedures for risk assessment and following legal guidelines
  • Conduct accident prevention training and health and safety training
  • Ability to prioritize tasks especially when handling an accident or incident.
  • Practice continuous process improvement. Stay informed an updated on new technologies.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to find cause and take prevention measures for further incidents.
  • Manage and process all accident reports and claims.
  • Monitor and process any discrepancies in the Central Analysis Bureau (CAB) Report.
  • Assist HR on worker’s compensation claims in the event of a workplace accident.
  • Perform on-duty alcohol and drug testing for reasonable suspicion tests.
  • Handle drug and alcohol testing orders post accidents, incidents or near misses.
  • Communicate with project supervisors and the customers to understand the Internal Traffic Control Plan for each project. 
  • Create and submit reports on safety standards and operational expectations met.
  • Cultivate professional relationships with customer’s field management. (Foremen, Superintendents, Project Manager’s, Inspectors, etc.)
  • Manage complex situations, generate alternatives, and execute solutions in an objective, customer oriented and cost-effective manner.
  • Coach and mentor staff in safety practices and regulations.
  • Provide effective performance feedback for employee recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary.
  • Suggest solutions, improvements, and prevention steps for safety issues.
  • Complete other assigned duties as needed.
